Kashmir The Land of Lakes, Valleys and Many More

Kashmir is one of those places where you want to keep coming back, again and again. This historically rich region functioned as a pivotal part of an ancient trade route, but has now become a haven for backpackers and tourists.

Kashmir has everything you would want from a holiday retreat. In Srinagar, it has a bustling city full of modern amenities. And in its various lakes, parks, and valleys, you would find ample opportunities for unwinding, or to engage in numerous activities such as boating and trekking. Kashmir tours in India would be incomplete without a trip to the following places.

Dal Lake

The surrounding greenery and mountains make the Dal Lake one of Kashmirs prime tourist attractions. Situated in the capital Srinagar, the Dal Lake is best experienced in houseboats, which traverse the lake throughout the year.

Gangabal Lake

The Gangabal Lake is a high-altitude lake that is significant from both religious and spiritual perspectives. Often referred to as the Haridwar of Kashmir, Gangabal Lake is a prominent destination for trekkers. The lake is believed to be River Ganges original source.

Nishat Bagh

Along with ChashmaShahi and Shalimar Gardens, NishatBagh is one of the most frequently visited gardens in Kashmir. Established in the 17th Century, NishatBagh is situated quite close to the Dal Lake, and showcases brilliant Mughal architecture along with various flowers and trees. Its twelve terraces are ideal for spending time in the lap of nature.

Pari Mahal

PariMahal is another splendid architectural landmark in Srinagar. Dara Shikoh, Shah Jahans son, established this famous landmark in 1650 and named it after his wife, Pari Begum. Situated atop the Zabarwan mountain range, this six-terraced garden provides spectacular panoramic views of Srinagar.

Betab Valley

Situated at a distance of 15 km. from the picturesque town of Pahalgam, Betab Valley has become a popular destination on Kashmir tour packages. The dense vegetation, lush green meadows, and surrounding snow clad mountain peaks makes this valley popular with backpackers and trekkers. The valley is also the starting point for numerous treks in the region.

Baltal Valley

Baltal Valley is quite close to popular hill-station Sonamarg, and serves as a night halt for pilgrims on the way to the sacred Amarnath cave. Trekkers often hike their way to Baltal from Pahalgam due to the mind-blowing views of the surrounding mountains on the way. Reasonable tent accommodation is available for both pilgrims and tourists.

Ladakh

The Ladakh region with its mountain desert landscape, is totally different from the lush green valleys found elsewhere in Kashmir. Many tourists choose Kashmir with Leh tour to experience Ladakh at its finest, including a trip to the regions capital city, Leh.
